Personal Profile

Chen Huanchun, born in Enshi, Hubei province, is the professor of Huazhong agricultural university, supervisor of Ph.D students, and now the director of the Cooperative Innovation Center for Sustainable Pig Production, Hubei. Prof. Chen has been honored with many awards, including the State Council Special Allowance, Heliang & Heli Foundation for Scientific and Technological Progress Award, China Agricultural Talent Award, Award for the Outstanding Contribution to the National Science and Technology Project during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan Period, and the Award for the outstanding contribution to Science and Technology in Hubei Province, etc.

Prof. Chen received his Doctor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine from University of Munich, Germany. Currently, he is the President of the >Chinese Veterinary Association, while also holds the positions in the Director of Academic Committee of the State Key Laboratory of Agricultural Microbiology; the Director of Academic Committee of the State Key Laboratory of Veterinary Biotechnology of Harbin Veterinary Research Institute, >Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences; the Chairman of Higher Learning Teaching Guidance Committee in the Majors of Animal Production, Ministry of Education; the expert committee member in State Council Emergency Handling Department; the member of Expert Committee of Ministry of Agriculture Science and Technology Committee; the member of Expert Committee of Science and Technology Commission of Ministry of Education; the member of the New Veterinary Drug Evaluation Committee of Ministry of Agriculture; Vice president of Genetical Modification and Technology of Ministry of Agriculture.

By 2022, Prof. Chen has held more than 50 important scientific research projects sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation, “973” project, “863” project and national support programs. He has developed more than 30 kinds of genetically engineering vaccines and molecular diagnostic kits, and obtained 20 genetically modified certificates, 30 certificates of new veterinary drug registration, 53 invention patents, and 5 national certificates for the new and key products. Prof. Chen has formulated three national standards and the Ministry of Agriculture industry standards. Prof. Chen also won the 2nd prize of National Science and Technology Progress for four times, the 1st prize of Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Progress for six times, and the 2nd prize of national teaching achievement for two times. More than six-hundred research papers have been published by Prof. Chen’s team, within which over two-hundred ones were indexed by SCI. Besides, Prof. Chen has published three monographs as chief editor, and another three ones as the joint editor. Till 2022, there are 102 doctors’ and 120 masters’ students graduated under his education. The research group led by Prof. Chen has been selected into the Innovation Groups of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.

Personal Profile

Jin Meilin, female, a member of the China Democratic League, is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the College of Animal Science and Technology and the College of Veterinary Medicine of Huazhong Agricultural University. She graduated from Peking University and Huazhong Agricultural University and was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in November 2023.

Focusing on the national strategic needs of the prevention and control of important zoonotic diseases and emerging animal diseases, she has conducted in-depth and systematic research. She has clarified the pathogenicity and immune mechanisms of pathogens, solved key technical problems in the research and industrialization of animal biological products, developed new vaccines, diagnostic reagents, and other precision bioproducts for disease control, and has achieved transformation of these results and their national application, making significant contributions to China's animal epidemic prevention and veterinary public health safety.

She has undertaken 43 scientific research tasks and led 29 projects/topics such as the National Basic Research Program (973), the High-Tech Research and Development Program (863), and the National Key R&D Program. As the first finisher, she has obtained 12 national new veterinary drug registration certificates, 6 clinical approvals, 49 national authorized invention patents, and 3 international patents. She has established 14 industry and local standards. She has published 233 SCI papers with 4324 citations and an H-index of 34, including 163 papers as the corresponding author or first author in journals like PNAS and Nat Commun. She has been selected as an Elsevier highly cited scholar for 9 consecutive years, and has authored 3 books and co-edited 4. She has transferred 59 independent research achievements, with a transfer fund of 220 million yuan. Her achievements have been promoted and applied in 31 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions across the country, increasing the efficiency of the breeding industry by 57.7 billion yuan.

She has won 3 National Science and Technology Progress second prizes (first in 2 and second in 1), 6 first prizes in Hubei Province Science and Technology Progress (first in 3), and 1 first prize in Hubei Province Science and Technology Achievement Promotion (first in 1). She has also received 16 honors including the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress, the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award, the National First Prize for Innovation, the National Advanced Individual in Fighting COVID-19 in the Science and Technology System, the Chinese Overseas Innovation Achievement Contribution Award, the DaBeiNong Science and Technology First Prize, and the Hubei March 8th Red-Banner Holder.
